Modernization, We have Become as Machines

The more we are connected to our devices and the news/information from around the world it decides to give us, the more we have isolated ourselves from those immediately around us.

Like the crack addict, we can't wait to get our next fix, the newest updated information. We grow cold toward each other. Our families are called to dinner via a text message or email. Or we just eat sitting in front of our devices we are chained to. We cheat on our loved ones with internet images we can't wait to meet because of compliments we convinced ourselves as truth to our personality, from a person who only sees what good in us we decide to share.  We like our egos stroked, and if stroked well, it can be very climatic. Now we in love.  It matters not to us that, though some are virtually cheating (per the Bible, you think it, so you are) on their spouses, daily with their constant voyeuristic behavior.  It doesn't matter that we aren't actually feeling the warmth of a real warm body.  We don't feel the passion, the sweat, the energy, we aren't hearing the breathing, or feeling muscles ache. We aren't looking into the eyes, or kissing the lips, the neck or in any other way stimulating our senses. We aren't actually in love with the whole, but only the good. Only because we read what we wanted to hear.  Stroked.

Would we still hold the same passion once we saw the whole picture? Knew the whole person?

Virtual foreplay.

We put our very lives, lives we don't value anyway, on the line by meeting someone who put to words, read from a glass screen, what we aren't hearing now. We fool ourselves that the person on the other end of the cable loves us, yet doesn't know us from Adam.  We introduce our children to strangers because we want to be with someone so bad we do no background checks.  We have no contact with those close to this person, nor they with anyone close to you.  We put our children, family, even livelihood in danger because we believe a very skillful orator. Or is it the other way around. How safe is your mental well being?

We have become a slave to our devices. It tells us when to get up, where to go and how to get there. We get the latest headlines from around the world, and we show compassion for those we have never met, far removed from us, yet the very ones around us get no compassion or love or tears.  We suffer from the same tragedies as those far and wide, but since it's not reported, it didn't happen.

We have become so cold as a people that mere touch to our flesh has become pointless in determining the condition of our health. We died. We died. If it weren't so tragic it would be funny how cold we have become.

Our lives were created! We are above all other created animals. We are Gods. Only a devil would snap pictures of a man about to die; or of an elderly woman being harressed by disrespectful teens; or of a woman being gang raped. All the while doing absolutely nothing to help.

What the hell happened to our sense compassion? Our sense of humanity?

Wow, what have we become?
