That processed crap, sugary drinks and sweets, unsupervised forms of entertainment (cable and music) contributes to a child's behavior. Parents aren't friends until the child is old enough to solve most of their own problems, pay their own bills in their own place.
A child not taught respect is a child who cannot do for self as an adult. I told mine, when little, "I am your mother, I ain't trying to be your friend right now." I understood that when I grew up and had children why my mother said it to us. It's a lot of work trying to be a good parent. A whole lot of exhaustive work.
Though I don't agree with parents who walk out, I can understand that not everyone is strong enough mentally to handle the blessing of being a parent.
