I was just in the middle a power outage for 2 days. I asked for help, because I cannot drive, it took a few calls and all day, I was able to get a new set of jumper cables. Otherwise I had everything else. Or most everything else. We should know where our emergency supplies are if we have to find them in the dark. Where is the flashlight? Where are your candles and matches? Do you have a means to cook for yourself or family? I was able to heat myself with my fireplace, cook with my stainless steel pots and pans, in the fireplace, watch my Time Warner on my iPhone 6s Plus, and treated myself to Little Debbie Peanut Butter Wafers last night. I was never in the dark as I am prepared. I don't have the traditional solar panels on top of the house, but I do have other means of not sitting in the dark in the event of an emergency. And I am not sitting around with a lot of fire or flammable oil around me either.
Think of what works best for you in your situation in an emergency and get prepared! An emergency isn't going to fit into your schedule.
