Assault Weapons

Just so there is no miss understanding, I am against assault weapons. Why would one need such fire power in a residential area? My son was shot up, in front of his wife and his 2 toddler sons. In front of other children playing. They saw a man shoot my son up, being already injured from being ran over by a car, already waiting for an ambulance, this coward took the opportunity to get his assault weapon, and, at close range, unload on my son, over, and over and over. My son crawling to get away, but he just kept on shooting. I do not think those who are not performing duties within the military scope should have access to such weapons.
